Flip Chart
Here is the flip chart I made for Build an Ark. You can access it by clicking on the PDF file below. I personally like to print it out on card stock, punch holes in the top, and flip it using a 3 ring binder. When I am actually teaching the song, I tape the pages together horizontally, that way I can use my hands to teach with out having to flip the pages. I just put it up on a board. Here is the link. As a tip, if you are viewing this from your phone, click the three dots in the upper left hand corner and select "print layout" for easier viewing:
I also created a flip chart that has just the words printed rather large too. This makes it easier for flipping the chart while leading with your hands or instruments because you have to flip the chart less. Since the chorus is a little different on the two verses, I highlighted the different words in blue so that it helps us think about those words as we sing them. You can see that document here:
Rhythm Sticks
My favorite way to review this song was by using rhythm sticks. I came up with some fun actions with the rhythm sticks and the kids loved it! You can check out the video here on exactly how to do it.
I also took pictures of my cheat sheet I made in case you need to print them off as a reference for while you sing. Remember when you do "the people would not hear" that you hold it in an "x" shape but don't make any sound at all. Also, the chorus is a little different the second time so I put those words in parenthesis. You can see those pictures below:
Egg Shakers
I used some ideas I saw on the Later-day Saint Primary Music Leaders page and altered the egg shaker patterns to fit my liking. Here is the video to the egg shaker patterns I used. If you don't have egg shakers, you can easily make your own using Easter eggs, rice, and scotch tape around the edges. They also sell them pretty cheap on Amazon.
Hand Motions
In 2013, the General Primary did an Auxiliary Training and taught this song. It is fabulous and my kids loved learning it this way. We even brought my husband in as Noah and dressed my daughter as a unicorn. She is walking so she kept running around and he said he was worried about whether or not the unicorns would actually make it on the boat. The kids got a real laugh out of that one!
Someone from the Later-day Saint Primary Music Leaders page created this document which is a transcript for the training that you could print up for your pianist and yourself too. I found it very helpful when doing this idea. Here is the file:
That's all I have on this song for now, but I will be sure to update this post as I discover more great ideas!
