Printable Nativity
Last year, I did a sort of sing-a-long nativity. The idea is that I would place characters on the board one at a time to build our own nativity. As we placed a character, we would read a verse that talked about them, and then sing a song related to them. It was a lot of fun. I wanted to digitalize my idea for others and in case I ever lose my copy. I would love to tell you where I found the cute images, but I can't quite remember where I found them. Anyway, I made this file with the images and typed out the scriptures and songs that you can attach to the back of them. Of course you can always swap out songs as needed too! Here is that file in case you want it:
Once In Royal David's City Flip Chart
Each of the characters has a song associated with them. Many are just a verse, but some I enjoy singing all the verses. So I created flip charts for them and only printed the verses I needed to put in the binder. Of course you could print them all just to have on hand too. This song you only need verse 1. You would place the male angel and Mary on the board, read their scriptures and then sing this song. You can print the file by clicking on this link:
When Joseph Went to Bethlehem Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the second song, When Joseph Went to Bethlehem. I like singing the whole song, but you can always shorten it as neeeded too. You sing this song after reading the scripture and placing Joseph on the board. Just click the link below to print this file for free :)
Away in a Manger
Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the third song, Away in a Manger. I like singing all three verses of this song if there is time, but you can always shorten it as needed too. You would put the picture of baby Jesus on the board, read his scripture, and then sing this song. Here is the file for that one:
The Nativity Song
Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the fourth song, The Nativity Song. I tend to only sing the first and third verses of this song because it has five verses. So you could always just print those if you want to save on paper. You can put just the cow on the board with the quote or add the sheep too. Then read the scripture and sing this song. Here is the file for that one:
The First Noel
Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the fifth song, The First Noel. For this one I tend to sing just the first verse but you could sing both verses if you wanted. You just put the shepherds on the board, read the scripture, and sing this song. Here is the file for that one:
Angels We Have Heard on High Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the sixth song, Angels We Have Heard on High. For this one I tend to sing all the verses, it just seems more complete this way, but you could easily just sing one. You just put up the girl angel on the board, read the scripture, and then sing this song. Here is the file for that one:
Stars Were Gleaming
Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the seventh song, Stars Were Gleaming. For this one I usually just sing the second verse if time is short, but you could totally do both if you have enough time. You just put up the star on the board, read the scripture and then sing this song. Here is the file for that one:
When We Seek Him
Flip Chart
Here is another flip chart I made for the eighth song, When We Seek Him. You could sing some of it or all of it. I made this flip chart last year, so it is a bit long, but the font is big enough for the kids to see while performing in Sacrament Meeting. I had the girls sing red, the boys sing green, and all of them sing together on black. So you could do something fun like that when you sing it if you want. You just place the wisemen on the board, read their scripture, and then sing this song. If your primary doesn't know this one, you could also sing With Wondering Awe, verses 1 & 2, Hymns 210. I haven't made a flip chart for that one yet, but let me know if you really need one, and I could likely be persuaded to help you out :) Here is the flip chart for When We Seek Him:
Okay! So that about covers the lesson plan. When I do this, we tend to just sing, though I think I may have found scarf motions for When Joseph Went to Bethlehem that I have used. You could add rhythm or movement to any of these songs, it just might make it last a bit longer. Last year, we mostly just sang them how listed and made it through the whole thing in one singing time. You could sing all the verses of each song and add extras and easily stretch it to two singing times if you prefer that. I hope you found this helpful! Happy singing :)
