Mother's Day

Mommy Potato Head

For Mother's Day this year, I thought I would do a fun singing time since my primary kiddos have been working so hard on learning the song, "More Than Enough" by Shawna Edwards. Definitely check out that post if you need some fun ideas for that song. Anyway, I got an idea to do a Mommy Potato Head for singing time. Basically, you build a Mrs. Potato Head while singing songs. I took the images from the Facebook Primary Music Leaders page and then added word strips for each part. So they will pick a body part word strip, and then we will read the scripture on the back and sing the song. Then another child who is reverently singing that song can come up and choose the body part to put on the board that went along with that song.

So for example, I may start by choosing a reverent child to pick a word strip. Say they chose "Eyes." Then they (or me) would read the scripture on the back and announce the song. I may try and coordinate the songs a bit, but will likely use songs we are practing throughout the year. "I Love To See the Temple" would be perfect for this song. After we sing "I Love to See the Temple" I will choose a different reverent singer to pick from the eyes, and put them on the board. Then I would choose a second reverent singer to pick a new body part and repeat until Mommy Potato Head is dressed (or we run out of time). This gives me the opportunity to choose more kids to help, but you could just let the child who chose the body part word strip also place the item on at the same time if you want :)

You can check out Camille's Primary Page for the printables to make the images print larger if you would like. Here is the idea in her post: https://camillesprimaryideas.com/2018/04/mr-potato-head-review.html You just have to find the printable in her resource library.

I also added the images from the original poster in my document below with my word strips and scriptures. You could print them smaller, or have them blown up bigger at your local print shop. You can see that here:

Build a Mom

I also saw a cute "Build a Mom" idea and save it into a file in case I want to try this another year. You would need to create the mom parts, but it could be easy to do. The poems with each part are so sweet. And you could just sing a song for each body part like above. Here is that file in case you want to check it out:

Treats for Mom

I thought it would be fun to hand out a treat for the kids to give to their mom and I had extra M&M packets from the review treat I sent them home with, so I thought I would tweak that handout into a fun printable for treats. Here it is in case you want to use it:
