Flip Chart
I plan to teach this song in April to the primary, and I am not quite sure which verses we will do just yet, so I mad e a flip chart with all of the verses just in case I need them. The flip chart is long because it covers 6 verses. But you can always just print the verse you need if that makes it easier :) As a tip, if you are viewing this from your phone, click the three dots in the upper left hand corner and select "print layout" for easier viewing. You can access the flip chart here:
Also, I have started creating flip charts that are just the words with no pictures. This is super helpful if I do a fun review day and want to cover multiple songs. Here is my flip chart for this one:
Melody Map
I created a melody map to go along with this song based on some other melody maps I had seen. I love the idea of melody maps but wanted something that was easy enough to print off, but large enough for the kids to see. I just did it for the first verse. The idea is that you start singing through the song and have them see patterns in the song. They may notice certain symbols for certain words. You could also mix up the pages and have them help you figure out what order it goes in. I know a lot of people have asked questions about melody maps and how they work, so check out the video on the left to see how to use it. My senior primary loves this activity. You can also access my file to print it here. As a tip, if you are viewing this from your phone, click the three dots in the upper left hand corner and select "print layout" for easier viewing.:
Scarves
I decided to make a scarf pattern for this song and had so much fun doing it. You can check out the video to the left. I liked the idea of having scarves for every verse of the song, but since there are six verses, that ended up being a LOT of motions. So I decided to create a chart with the words and actions that you can put up in your primary room as you do it to make it all a little easier for the kids to learn the motions to the scarf patterns. You could print up just one verse or multiple if you want. I printed mine on cardstock and taped them together acordian style so that I could use just one verse or multiple verses and add or remove them easily. You could also use this document just for reviewing for yourself as you practice them. You can access that file here. As a tip, if you are viewing this from your phone, click the three dots in the upper left hand corner and select "print layout" for easier viewing.:
Sharla Dance's Clapping Pattern
Sharla Dance does a great hand clapping pattern at one of her trainings. It starts about 12:12 to the 17 minute mark. So fun (and simple, yet challenging.) It could also be simplified for Junior Primary. I am definitely going to try this one with my primary, so I am putting the idea here so I don't forget about it :)
Joshua Dance's Picture Match Up
Sharla's son, Joshua, is now a music leader. He came up with a fun idea to post a whole bunch of images and then hang them up. Then you have the kids try to put the images in order as you sing. You can print all the images for free here: http://teachingprimarymusic.com/free-printable-13-pictures-for-mixed-up-pictures-activity-for-the-song-redeemer-of-israel/?fbclid=IwAR1gaTedAKoYxNJgNqkDmGgE_t7xest7HsJNEN8WW5un-kgOKji0t5XgZek
Sara Hendrick's Pool Noodles
I saw this posted on the Later-day Saint Primary Music Leaders page as well. Sara does a simple pool noodle pattern to help them focus on the names of Christ used in the song. What a fun idea! You can check out her video here.
That is all I have for now, but I will update this post as I discover more ideas :)
