The Holy Ghost

Flip Chart

Here is a preview of my flip chart for this song. I love to tape the pages together accordion style and put them behind me on the board while we sing. I print them on card stock so that I can use magnets or push pins and they hold up well for repeated use. I punch holes in another chart on card stock and use those in a 3 ring binder as we perform it for the program. My hubby helps flip the pages while I lead with my hands. Here is the flip chart file. As a tip, if you are viewing this from your phone, click the three dots in the upper left hand corner and select "print layout" for easier viewing:

Finger Lights/Flashlights

I originally taught this song using a flash light when we were virtual. Since then, I do basically the same hand motions but using finger lights. The kids LOVE using finger lights. Whenever we use glow sticks or finger lights, we will turn off the lights but leave a front light on for the pianist to make sure she can still see.

When we sing this we will talk about how we all are born with the light of Christ in us, and then when we get the gift of the Holy Ghost, the light gets brighter, as we listen to the Holy Ghost, the light gets even brighter. Doctrine and Covenants 50:24 is great for emphasizing that point: "That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day." Sometimes I also like to emphasize that we should sing so the light of the Holy Ghost can shine through our eyes so that others may feel our testimonies as we sing.

Egg Shakers

You may notice that my actions are a little similar here to the finger lights, but I love keeping certain words or phrases the same. It makes it easier to switch up instruments and have the kids still follow along easily. The junior primary caught on to the actions pretty quickly and since the egg shakers are a quiter instrument, it was still a great fit for the still small voice part of the song. Try it out and let me know how your primary likes it as well!

That's all I have on this song for now, but I will update it as we do more activities with this song.
